First, Christina's website is very informative, meaning it describes the experience in great detail, so I had some idea what to expect. 2nd, I really liked that my makeup and hair were included as part of the basic shoot fee. 3rd, I appreciated that Christina also built in a PRE-shoot, Zoom session to review details (i.e. what to wear) and answer my questions. 4th, and perhaps most importantly, I could tell from the above 3 factors and after talking with Christina that she is high class and was willing to work with me regarding a couple of my particular concerns.

At my age, (about to turn 74), I am, finally, a confident person. So this experience didn't change how I see myself. Rather, it gave me "permission" to be who I really am; meaning to let loose and enjoy it!

My principal fears were that, at my age and given some of my physical issues, (i.e. arthritis), I would have difficulty doing the poses and looking sexy. Both Christina and her assistant worked with me to overcome this and pose me in a way that looked sexy and natural.

I had fun! I brought my own playlist and joked around about sex, my body, and my physical issues, (i.e. arthritis). I went into this with an attitude that I was going to have fun - - (versus worrying about perfection). I trusted Christina to do the rest as the professional photographer experienced in this work.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photoshoot?

Don't allow "the perfect to be the enemy of the good." Go in with an attitude of having fun; enjoy the experience. Do your preparation, (i.e. pick your few best outfits, make your playlist, assemble your stuff at least the day before), and then have fun! Trust in Christina to do her job and get you to look your best. She knows what she is doing!

The word boudoir pronounced buˈdwɑ (unless you’re me then it’s just boo-dwar) is an old-fashioned term used to refer to “a woman's bedroom or dressing room”. It originates from the French word boudoir which means “to sulk”. Naturally, boudoir photography typically takes place in a bedroom setting showcasing a woman posing suggestively wearing lingerie garments or similar.

Although previously a male-dominated industry featuring photos of models and imagery centered around the female form as sexually suggestive art, I’ve watched boudoir photography evolve into something I am very passionate about — empowering women.

You will find that a lot of photographers’ portfolios are primarily of models. And yes, you will find photographers out there who use filters and body morphing apps to sculpt images that prioritize perfection.

I can tell you that is not us.

As a female boudoir photographer, I aim to help women fall back in love with themselves. And, my boudoir photography studio has become known for being a creative private space where women can feel safe and comfortable getting boudoir photos taken.

It’s a place for everyday women aspiring to feel more confident in their own skin. A place where they can step out of their comfort zone, and change how they see themselves! For that, at Bella Jade Boudoir, getting boudoir photos is less about the male gaze or having the perfect body and more about how a woman feels in her own skin.

My initial approach to boudoir and for the last 8+ years has been to have a lot of fun, encourage self-love, enhance your beauty, honor your curves, and capture images that memorialize a moment when you felt celebrated, confident, and sexy!

If your goal is to boost your self-esteem do your research and find a boudoir photographer that is the right fit for you. who encourages self-care, and believes in things like body positivity or body neutrality. At Bella Jade Boudoir we do not expect our boudoir clients to lose weight, get an extreme tan, or force you into garments not meant for you. And, while you’ll get to have your hair and makeup done professionally our artists specialize in natural glam hair and makeup looks that enhance your natural beauty and boost your self-esteem. Plus, you’ll never see any over-editing on my end. My approach to editing is to create finished art-worthy photos through expert techniques like color and lighting enhancements, skin softening and removing unexpected blemishes like breakouts, and bruises.

Instead, we focus on celebrating women of all shapes and sizes and showing you just how beautiful you already are. Our thoughts: You do not need to transform into someone else to feel more confident in your own skin. Regardless of your imperfections, or so-called flaws, you too deserve to feel loved, sexy, and empowered. What inspired you to pursue a boudoir photo shoot?

I wanted to build some confidence, but I’m also getting married and wanted a surprise for my soon-to-be husband.

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale for your boudoir experience?

I just loved Christina’s work and her whole vibe! Her online presence is very positive and empowering. And her work is sexy and fun without being over the top.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this experience change the way you see yourself?

I think of my self as a mostly confident person with some things I can definitely work on. The experience helped me to gain some confidence in my body and my ability to look sexy at any size.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them? Anything you wish you would have done differently?

I was nervous that I was just going to look like a whale in anything that wasn’t something full coverage. But with help from Christina beforehand in outfit selection as well as just her being a rockstar and finding the right positions for me, I LOVED the results. I legit never thought I could look so hot!!

What was your favorite part about your boudoir experience?

Hanging with Christina and Leah! They are so much fun and made me feel so comfortable, confident, and beautiful. They were also amazing about finding angles and looks that worked for ME not just putting everything into a cookie cutter and dealing with the results.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photoshoot?

BOOK THE SHOOT!!! You aren’t too old, fat, saggy, or whatever… your body is beautiful and you should celebrate the stage you’re in!! This is also such a fun, sexy surprise for someone! I can NOT wait to give my fiancé the results!!

Many women have fears and concerns when deciding to do a boudoir photoshoot. If you’re worried having your boudoir photos taken will be awkward I want to assure you — doing a boudoir shoot is not awkward. That’s just not true. With the right fit photographer, and a private, safe, and positive environment, doing a boudoir session is a lot of fun! Moreover, it will be an empowering and liberating experience you won’t regret!

After my sessions, most women tell me they can’t believe they took so long to book it, and that every woman should get a chance to experience this at least once in their lifetime. Sometimes those clients even come back! Once they know what to expect, they have an easier time letting their guard down and get to experience it all over again in a new way!

All that being said, unfortunately, the thought of getting boudoir photos being awkward can result in some women never getting to experience this at all. Ultimately, missing out on all of the benefits a boudoir session!

Which is the reason I wanted to write this. Because stripping down to lingerie, and trusting me to capture the most beautiful portraits of themselves they’ve ever seen is kind of a big deal! I want to be the person for you that supports you, that makes you feel welcome, that guides you through the entire process, and helps you fall back in love with yourself!

Feeling nervous about doing a boudoir session is not uncommon. On one hand, it's recognized as an empowering experience, offering a chance for self-discovery, embracing one's sensuality, and boosting confidence. On the other hand, it can be intimidating not knowing exactly what to expect or how to pose for boudoir pictures, as well push you to venture beyond your comfort zone.

For a lot of our boudoir clients going into it was a little nerve wracking at first but they’ve left feeling like it was entirely worth taking the leap, stepping out of their comfort zone and experiencing a boudoir photo shoot for themselves!

For that, we love interviewing our boudoir clients after their boudoir session with us, and sharing that with women similar to them who want to do something like this! Recently, we interviewed Miss T. about her personal experience.

Miss T. shares what her boudoir photo shoot was like in her own words:

What inspired you to pursue a boudoir photo shoot?

I have always wanted to do this but kept putting it off, waiting for an occasion or a milestone moment. I finally decided to stop waiting and got the encouragement from a few close friends to just do it. And soooo glad I finally did!

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale for your Arizona boudoir experience?

After I decided to do a boudoir shoot, I started to do my research. I visited multiple sites and just kept going back to The Bella Jade Collection. What drew me to it was Christina's style of photography and her being able to capture the essence of a woman and bring out the sexiness in a sensual way. That is what I was looking for. I was sold!

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this experience change the way you see yourself?

I fluctuate between confident and work in progress, I'm pretty sure all of us women do. With having children and aging and dealing with body changes, it's an ongoing process of accepting yourself as you are now. This experience has definitely helped me see myself as sexy and alluring. It helped me to see myself in a way that I haven't seen in a long while.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them? Anything you wish you would have done differently?

I definitely was anxious and nervous and way out of my comfort zone going in. But Christina is so genuine and real and did such an amazing job of helping me overcome that and help me feel relaxed.

What was your favorite part about your boudoir experience?

Christina took the rein and helped me get out of my head by just letting go and enjoying the experience. She walked me through everything, answered every question, helped with outfit selections and worked with me through my insecurities to produce some AMAZING pictures!

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photoshoot?

I would say, stop waiting for the 'right' moment. Whether you're 100% confident or not, this experience will change your mindset!

Boudoir Photography And How It Changes You

First, why I wanted to share this with you:

Woman to woman, the pressure to exist and look a certain way can be all too familiar for most women. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, a housewife, homemaker, stay-at-home mom, working mom, a career-centric woman with no kids both or anything else, the modern woman is undeniably a force to be reckoned with. She does it all and looks damn good doing it! Am I right? But, that doesn’t come without creeping feelings of guilt, burnout, feeling inadequate, or dealing with some form of self-loss.

It’s undoubtedly an incredible time to be a woman — do not get me wrong! But it can also be stressful, overwhelming, and seemingly impossible to keep up at times. Especially with things like social media, reminding us every day that someone out there somewhere is probably doing it better, and somehow does it all while still having a rock-solid bangin body appearing as if they are just effortlessly walking around the world. {Insert intrusive thoughts: ‘being a woman is so easy you’re just not doing it right’} The point is that we are living in a world that makes it feel good to be a woman, but also one where instant gratification and highlight reels can send us on a path of comparison and self-doubt to no end.

I’m here to tell you that you are not alone. Also, that it’s never selfish to take care of yourself, set boundaries, do more of what makes you come alive, and love yourself through that process. There will be highs and there will be lows. That’s inevitable. But you get to choose how your story will be written and you, my love, set the bar for how you get to feel about you! You control the narrative, babe! This is all the more reason why so many women are choosing to do a boudoir session for themselves. They want to celebrate their victories, feel good in their own skin and learn to love themselves unconditionally.

So, how does a boudoir session change you?

As a female boudoir photographer in the Phoenix area for over 8 years I’ve gotten to work with women from all walks of life. Women come into our studio for all sorts of reasons! Whether its to celebrate a milestone, a gift for their significant other, an act of self love or something else, do you want to know the one thing most have in common? They want to change the way they see themselves!

My boudoir clients tell me all of the time how this experience changed them and that they are so full of gratitude for this experience.Just imagine having photos of yourself that capture a time when you felt loved, confident, and empowered. The time comes to slip into your first outfit. And, it challenges you to see yourself and let yourself be seen. But as you get into poses and are coached through that process you recognize that all of the fear leading up to this was just your intrusive thoughts … getting in the way of you looking and feeling your most confident self! You’re laughing, feeling sexy, and having fun! It’s now the end of you’re shoot and you’re walking away feeling like you’re on cloud nine, radiating with beauty and an abundance self love! You did it! And, you feel more alive than you’ve felt in a long time!

You come back to see your very own boudoir photos for the first time. Not without inhibition( let’s be honest we all have flaws, and your inner critic can be awfully convincing) but you made a pact with yourself to be more gentle with your body so you look up at them anyway, amazed by your own beauty. You’re realizing you were enough after all, and that you too are a gorgeous, incredible, strong, and beautiful woman! It changes you! It inspires you to love yourself more, be more present, and take more time to just be yourself! The bombshell, and absolute goddess who was always there and just needed a little boost to show fully, has arrived! And, there ain’t no stopping her now!

After losing weight and going through a significant life change she wanted to do more for herself. What inspired you to pursue a boudoir photo shoot?

I have had a ROUGH start to 2024. After some damaging blows to my self confidence my partner of nearly 8 years left me. I took it upon myself to try to rise up, lost 65 pounds and wanted to do something for myself to claim my confidence back. This seemed like a great just for myself option and a way to break out and celebrate myself and my self change.

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale for your Arizona boudoir experience?

Everything I have seen from following social media I have liked. I love that it's about who women are, not photoshopping to make people look like who society thinks women should be.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this experience change the way you see yourself?

I used to be a confident person. I want to be again. I am a work in progress. But this has helped me see myself in a better more positive way - which I needed.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them? Anything you wish you would have done differently?

No fears. I went into this planning to be as open as I could. I guess I was worried I would be too negative about myself and talk myself out of liking any of my photos. Thankfully that didn't happen. I love a lot of them.

What was your favorite part about your boudoir experience?

I think just starting to prove to myself again that I'm worth my own time.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photoshoot?

Do it. Do it for yourself. Sure it would be a fun gift for someone. But do it to prove to yourself that you're amazing.

What inspired you to pursue a boudoir session?

I wanted to be put in a setting where it opens up my woman hood and embrace myself and my body!

I had researched others in my area and this company kept sticking out.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this experience change the way you see yourself?

Probably more a work in progress, yes it did change the way I see myself I can be an empowering women yet vulnerable.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them? Anything you wish you would have done differently?

Absolutely was nervous. I think I did my best to overcome that. I wish I would’ve let go even more and more.

What was your favorite part about your boudoir experience?

The whole day was great , narrowing it down is tough but the feeling of sexy vulnerability.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photoshoot?

Feel free let go and give in.

What inspired you to pursue a boudoir session?

I cosplay and I am an innately sensual person. I enjoy my sexuality and wanted to combine both of these elements in a classy way.

I chose The Bella Jade Collection because of the style of Boudoir offered, every piece I saw had the elegance and class I wanted in my photos.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did your Scottsdale boudoir photography experience change the way you see yourself?

A work in progress, I think I’ll always be a work in progress.
Life is constantly changing and so are we. We can love ourselves one moment but then something happens and we have to start all over again to build up those foundations of self love.

Did you have any fears going into this kind of photoshoot? Were you able to overcome them? Anything you would have done differently?

I didn’t have any fears, just excitement.
This was something new and definitely something I’d love to do again.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

It’s hard to pick just one singular part since I really did love everything from feeling pampered with makeup and hair styling, to the fun banter during the actual photoshoot. Even the photo selection process was a bit surreal to just see all the images printed out.

Just go for it. It’s really not a scary thing to do, you’re not cliff diving or doing something insane.
