Miss A. Shares her Scottsdale Boudoir Photography Experience | Best Phoenix Boudoir Photographer in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona
Boudoir photography has become increasingly popular over the years. Although a lot of my clients still prefer to have their photos remain private, the idea of doing a boudoir session is much less taboo than it was when I began my journey as a boudoir photographer. It’s not so much a secret anymore. You’ve likely heard of it. Most have. And, chances are if you’ve heard of it — you’re intrigued. Perhaps even reading this now in a ‘search for a boudoir photographer near me’.
Since most of my clients have been where you are now … intrigued, excited, a little unsure, possibly even scared — many are gracious and excited when I ask them to share their testimonials for the boudoir blog. They want to share their experience with others, especially if it helps them choose the right photographer, feel more comfortable, and have the experience that will truly empower them to love themselves more and feel more confident in their own skin.
This was definitely the case with Miss A. She wanted to be a part of encouraging other women to do this for themselves, even if they are scared at first. After her session we asked her a few questions to see what it was like for her!
Here’s what Miss A. says from her point of view having had boudoir photos taken at Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale.

While all of this is true, most women are intrigued by the idea, trying to understand the real reason women get boudoir photos may still be a little blurry. You may not fully grasp the full meaning behind boudoir photos until you’ve experienced boudoir for yourself.

Here’s what Miss A. says from her point of view after getting boudoir photos taken at Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale.
Why did you decide to do a boudoir photoshoot?
I had always wanted to try it out. After I turned 40 I was like if I don't do it now, I am never going to to it.
Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale for your boudoir photos?
I looked at a lot of places but Bella Jade was an all female place. The reviews were all 5 star 🌟
Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did doing a boudoir shoot change the way you see yourself?
I am definitely a work in progress but I felt incredibly confident when I went into Bella Jade. This experience made me feel more confident and more alive in my own skin.
Did you have any fears going into your boudoir photoshoot? Were you able to overcome them? Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
I didn't have fears. I was nervous but I had a so much fun. If I could do this whole photo shoot again I would have done the Noir photo shoot too.
What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?
The hair and make up is always my favorite part. I never do my own make up. And very rarely do I do my hair. But, then it was just the 3 of us ladies having fun.
Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photoshoot?
DO IT!!
Would you recommend Bella Jade Boudoir to a friend?
ABSOLUTELY💯 % I loved my experience

“I just got done with my photo shoot and I had a blasty blast!! From start to finish Christina and Heidi made me feel comfortable and at ease. They were joking around and having me do poses that I didn't know I was already doing. Christina picked out my outfits from the many that I had brought. She helped me narrow it down to about 4 outfits that were the best for what she had in mind. She coached me through the whole photo shoot. It was so much fun! I felt sexy and kind of like a model. Thank you Christina <3.
Heidi wouldn't let me see myself until she was completely done with my hair and make up. She did an amazing job! She made me feel beautiful. She did an amazing job on my hair. I have alot of it. And my make up was very well done. She made me look nicely made up. She didn't go overboard or too thick or anything.
I loved working with them both. They made the process a lot of fun! I want to thank both of them very much. You both made me feel beautiful and had me very comfortable. I felt very at home. My nerves went right out the door. We joked around the whole time. I felt very comfortable.
Thank you both Christina and Heidi <3”

"10/10 would recommend for boudoir shoot! From the hair and makeup pampering beforehand to the personalized posing and pump up it was truly such a fun experience!! I did my shoot at 30 weeks pregnant and let me tell you I have never felt better about myself :)”

“I recently had a photo shoot with Christina and her team. Wow. Amazing experience. They made me look beautiful with my hair and make up but made me so comfortable during the shoot. All hesitation went out the door. I felt amazing had great experience I would definitely do it again.”

Miss R. says…
“Absolutely amazing experience!
I recently had a photoshoot with Christina, and it was nothing short of fantastic. From the very beginning, Christina created such a comfortable, empowering, and fun atmosphere. We started with a get-to-know-you call a few weeks prior, which was great to ask questions and to get to know her more.
Once in the studio she coached me through all of the poses and even when I was not getting it she would try to explain it a different way. While I was there it was like I was hanging out with a friend and didn't want it to end. She knows how to get that perfect shot and I cannot wait to see the final results!!!
If you’re thinking about a boudoir session but you keep putting it to the side because you feel like you aren’t ready yet, stop waiting. Go see Christina you will not regret it. And if you don't want to take my word for it check out the Bella Jade Collection group on Facebook where there are a ton of women on there that felt the same way.
I cannot recommend enough doing boudoir photos and will definitely be booking Christina again.”(January 2025)
Miss R. says…
"I recently completed a photo shoot with Bella Jade and, having seen the proofs, am thrilled with the outcome! The aspects of Bella Jade that set it apart from other boudoir photographers I considered are:
1st, that the owner, Christina, includes a pre- shoot Zoom meeting as part of the initial fee. 2nd, I valued that Bella Jade also provides makeup & hair styling as part of the basic package. 3rd, Bella Jade's website and continuous emails are very informative and address all aspects of a boudoir photo shoot; including, what to wear, what to expect, breaking down the cost, and the psychological factors entailed in loosening up.
But perhaps most of all I valued Christina's integrity and approach to doing business, which is, nothing less than a class act. You get what you pay for, and Bella Jade is absolutely worth it!”

Miss A. says…
“I went into the studio hoping for Princess treatment & left feeling like a QUEEN! I'd been wanting to do a professional photo shoot for YEARS now & have found many reasons to put it off. I finally put MYSELF 1st & reserved my session! Christina was SO very accommodating to my requests for a vintage look & pin-up style.
I was VERY pleased with the hair & make-up pampering. The coaching during the shoot was wonderful and I felt beautifully confident and relaxed. NO matter your shape, size, age, height, weight - YOU can do this! I had to stop making excuses and LOVE myself enough to be brave, be daring, and indulge myself with some well-deserved FUN! I now have a photo collection of beautiful images to cherish forever (and maybe share a few with someone very lucky & special)!

Top 5 Questions to ask when choosing a boudoir photographer:
Who will be taking my boudoir photos?
Let’s talk low volume vs. high volume studios really quick — Its important to note that there are different kinds of boudoir studios. Know that high volume studios typically have more than one boudoir photographer on staff (and that can change at any given time). Which means the person you are talking to might not actually be the same person that will be at your session. It is important that you know who will be taking your boudoir photos. Do not be afraid to ask this question!
Bella Jade’s Answer:
Bella Jade Boudoir is a full service, high touch, low volume studio. We generally book a limited amount of sessions per month. (I know I know, we may be missing out on some mula doing things this way, but it is more important to me that we can ensure every client gets the same luxury experience! We just don’t want to overbook or overexert ourselves. Simple as that).
On the plus side, that means every woman that comes through our studio knows exactly who they’ll be working with and can receive the one on one guidance they need for an amazing time with us!
In short — We DO NOT hire out other photographers to fill your session. The person you speak to at your consultation is the same person that will be with you and photographing you on the day of your session. “It’s me. Hi! ‘Im, Christina”. You can learn more about me and our team here.
Where will my boudoir session take place?
The term boudoir means “private bedroom or sitting room”. Likely your boudoir session will take place in a setting like described. This could be anything from your own home, your photographers home, a hotel room, a rented space, or a private studio. Not all boudoir photographers have a designated space for their boudoir sessions. Your photographer should have no problem taking to you about where your session will take place.
Bella Jade’s Answer:
When you book a shoot with Bella Jade Boudoir we have two of our very own private boudoir studios to choose from. We offer our classic Main Studio, or you can opt for our signature rich and moody studio, also known as The Grey Room which are both located in Old Town Scottsdale. For more details on boudoir set options for your Bella Jade Boudoir Experience be sure to come back and Tour The Studios.
What’s included with the cost of my boudoir session?
Since every boudoir photographer has a different process, be sure to ask what’s included with your boudoir photo shoot price. The most common additional costs may include, professional hair and make up, studio/hotel rental, price per outfit change, additional hours, prints and products.
Bella Jade’s Answer:When your book a shoot at Bella Jade Boudoir your session includes a styling and wardrobe consultation, photo focused hair and make up pampering, private studio location, expert photoshoot coaching and posing direction, professional beauty retouching and editing of your photos, and a boutique ordering experience to view your photos and place your final package order. Since our final packages options vary in products prices and number of images, we want you to see your photos and sample our products before you invest in your final images. For this, all of your photos, prints, and products are purchased separately on the day of your ordering appointment (typically two weeks after your session date).
That means — You only purchase what YOU love! How many boudoir sessions do you do per day?
Note that some boudoir photographers shoot back to back sessions. For most women, privacy and comfortability is important. If this is you, asking this question might help you decide which photographer is right for you.
Bella Jade’s Answer:
To be honest, shooting more than one session per day can be exhausting and I want to be ALL IN FOR YOU during your session. At Bella Jade we schedule one session per date giving you all of our energy and allowing you as much time as you need to get more comfortable in front of the camera. We want you to feel supported, comfortable, not rushed, and have a genuine good time hanging out with your new hype girls for a day!
Typically our sessions last between 3 to 4 hours including hair and make up. We sometimes do photograph multiple women in one day but this is reserved for private events like Bachelorette Boudoir Parties or Best Friend Sessions but we’ll save that information for another day on another blog post.
Do you have experience shooting women my age, my size, etc.?
Experience and boudoir specific training in boudoir photography matters, A LOT. After all, this is the person you’ll be trusting with your personal boudoir photos. If you’re wanting to do a boudoir shoot as a way to boost your confidence you’ll want to hire a boudoir photographer who is experienced, knows how to coach you through posing, and has an eye for photographing all body types in the most flattering ways. If it is not readily prevalent in the photos they share be sure to ask if they’ve had experience photographing women of all ages, shapes, and sizes (not just models or any one similar body type).
Bella Jade’s Answer:
Our aim is to help women realize their beauty and feel empowered to love themselves unconditionally. For that, we take special care to ensure that you look and feel amazing no matter what age, shape, or size you may be. We will offer guidance from what to wear down to how to pose so that you will truly love how you look in your boudoir photos! Moreover we have photographed hundreds of women and have over 7 years of experience shooting exclusively boudoir. Our experience ranges from age 21 to 60+, all different body types (including plus size), and all different comfort levels! Our clients are not expected to know what to wear, how to pose, or arrive 100 percent confident wearing little to nothing in front of us. We know that nerves are normal and are here to help you and encourage you through the entire process.
other questions you might want to ask:
Will my photos be shared publicly? Ask me…
What is the turn around time for photos? Ask me…
Can you edit things like scars, bruises, and acne? Ask me…
Who will be at my session? Ask me…
Will you help me with what to wear? Ask me…
What if I don’t know how to “look sexy” in photos? Ask me…
How far out are you booking sessions"? Ask me…

Before you get your panties in a bunch know that — there is a photographer for everyone.
And in some cases, even if you’re searching for a boudoir photographer on limited funds, it is still possible to hire a boudoir photographer you know you’ll love! I’ll share more on that at the end of this post!
“When hiring a photographer you have 3 choices —
Good.
Fast.
and Cheap.
As the saying goes, you can only pick two (and its true).
Do you want boudoir photos that are fast and cheap? Well, then they will likely not be good.
Do you want boudoir photos that are good and cheap? Well, they’ll probably not be fast.
Do you want boudoir photos that are good and fast? Well they will not be cheap.
So, how much does a boudoir photo shoot cost?
The cost of boudoir photos can range anywhere from $200 to over $3,000 with some premium photographers charging up to $10,000 or more. Let’s remember, what is considered affordable and what is considered expensive is relative. So, choosing whether or not to make this investment whether it’s $200 $3,000, or $10,000 will ultimately depend on what you value most.
For now, let’s consider a few different options you could choose for your boudoir photos — from DIY (do it yourself) boudoir at home to professional boudoir photos at a full-service boudoir studio like Bella Jade Boudoir.
Under $200
You can do it yourself at home with your phone and take your own boudoir photos for free.
Pros:
You won’t have to travel anywhere.
You have access to the photos immediately.
Cons:
You may fall short on posing ideas.
Setting up the shot with lighting and a self timer all while trying to pose on your own can be overwhelming and daunting.
They may not turn out as you’d imagined.
$200 to $500
You can find a boudoir photographer who is just starting out.
Every boudoir photographer has to start somewhere. Understand, that new does not necessarily mean bad. But, it can in some cases mean cheaper. In the beginning, many photographers like to practice and build up their portfolio prior to charging the full cost for their talent and services. Which means, you may be able to find a new boudoir photographer who is offering boudoir photo shoots at a lower price than their established and more experienced counterparts. You may also find a new photographer running what the industry refers to as “Model Calls”. A model call is when a photographer hosts photo shoots at a discounted price (could be as low as $200, sometimes no price at all) in exchange for use of your boudoir photos in their portfolio.
Pros:
It’s usually the less expensive alternative.
Can still result in photos that you like.
Cons:
Photographers just starting out are inexperienced in posing women for boudoir so you’ll likely feel more pressure to come in with your own posing ideas.
You may wait longer for your photos if this photographer is still not proficient with editing.
Some may even be inexperienced with photography in general, so you may encounter awkward moments where they are focused primarily on camera settings instead of posing you or helping you feel more comfortable.
Most new photographers do not have their own boudoir studios, so you may not know where the photoshoot will take place when you book the shoot. You may also be asked to cover the costs of a rented space.
If you participate in a model call, you will not have the option for your photos to remain private and you may also be asked to arrive with your hair and make up already professionally done (leaving you to find and hire your own hair and make up artists).
Due to the low cost, you’re not going to have access to tangible products like boudoir albums without going somewhere to have them made (requires permission from the photographer) or spending more later on.
Inexperience also leads to inconsistencies in their portfolio, therefore you are taking a gamble on whether or not your photos will be good.
$500 to $1000
You can find an established boudoir photographer that shoots high volume.
These photographers are able to keep their costs relatively affordable by keeping their own business costs low, and taking on a much higher volume of clients. In order to stay in business, it is likely that this photographer also shoots every day and multiple genres. In photography, studio owners typically wear many hats above and beyond taking photos. Therefore, shooting every day multiple times a day can lead to burn out. To avoid that and stay in business at this price point, these photographers generally only provide the bare essentials for a boudoir photoshoot. They are more likely NOT to offer things like pre-session consultations, hair and make up services, or have access to high end finished artwork options like custom boudoir albums. With a higher volume of clients, these photographers often will just deliver images in the form of a click to download online gallery.
Pros
It may cost less than a full service boudoir photographer.
Typically, the photo shoot and digital images are all included in the price.
The photoshoots are short and sweet.
Cons
You only get the bare minimum, which means you likely receive little to no guidance before your shoot on how to prepare.
They may not have their own studio — which means you might not know where the shoot will take place (sometimes may even be asked to cover the additional costs to rent one)
You may need to look elsewhere or schedule a separate appointment with an additional fee for having your hair and make up professionally done.
There’s usually no option for tangible products and gifts like albums.
Edits like removing bruises, acne, or smoothing tan lines may not be offered or may require an additional fee.
You may have to wait longer to get your photos back.
The photographer more than likely is choosing which images you’ll receive instead of you being able to choose.
The sessions are generally shorter, which means less/no time for multiple outfits.
Also, could mean less time for you to warm up in front of the camera.
$1000 to $3000+
You can find a premium photographer that is well established, experienced, and highly skilled at what they do. We all know the saying “you get what you pay for” wasn’t made up for no reason. Even still, do your research! A premium price tag should be in alignment with what you are receiving. Read their reviews, follow their social media, and browse their website for full sessions. Make sure their quality of work is consistent. These photographers should have a track record of happy clients, extensive high quality portfolios, a dedicated studio space, and offer a full service experience. Full service can include professional hair and make up, consultations to go over what to expect, what to wear & get advise how to prepare for your shoot. In most cases, the cost for the session and the cost for the images and products are separate so that clients can choose there own package.
Pros
Your photographer will be an expert at their craft.
They’ve worked with plenty of women of different body types, and know how to pose you so that you actually look good!
You’ll go into it knowing that you’re going to love your photos.
They’ll give you the guidance you need to be prepared.
They’ll know what to do to help you feel more comfortable during your session.
You will not have to wait months to get your photos back.
You’ll likely be able to choose your own photos.
And have access to a range of high quality products - some examples include albums, canvases, prints, and digital thumb drives.
Cons
You’ll likely want to do research before you book it (read reviews, know what to expect, and make sure they can walk the walk)
You might need to save up for what you really want.
You’ll likely want to book in advance.
