Feeling nervous about doing a boudoir session is not uncommon. On one hand, it's recognized as an empowering experience, offering a chance for self-discovery, embracing one's sensuality, and boosting confidence. On the other hand, it can be intimidating not knowing exactly what to expect or how to pose for boudoir pictures, as well push you to venture beyond your comfort zone.

For a lot of our boudoir clients going into it was a little nerve wracking at first but they’ve left feeling like it was entirely worth taking the leap, stepping out of their comfort zone and experiencing a boudoir photo shoot for themselves!

For that, we love interviewing our boudoir clients after their boudoir session with us, and sharing that with women similar to them who want to do something like this! Recently, we interviewed Miss T. about her personal experience.

Miss T. shares what her boudoir photo shoot was like in her own words:

What inspired you to pursue a boudoir photo shoot?

I have always wanted to do this but kept putting it off, waiting for an occasion or a milestone moment. I finally decided to stop waiting and got the encouragement from a few close friends to just do it. And soooo glad I finally did!

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale for your Arizona boudoir experience?

After I decided to do a boudoir shoot, I started to do my research. I visited multiple sites and just kept going back to The Bella Jade Collection. What drew me to it was Christina's style of photography and her being able to capture the essence of a woman and bring out the sexiness in a sensual way. That is what I was looking for. I was sold!

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this experience change the way you see yourself?

I fluctuate between confident and work in progress, I'm pretty sure all of us women do. With having children and aging and dealing with body changes, it's an ongoing process of accepting yourself as you are now. This experience has definitely helped me see myself as sexy and alluring. It helped me to see myself in a way that I haven't seen in a long while.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them? Anything you wish you would have done differently?

I definitely was anxious and nervous and way out of my comfort zone going in. But Christina is so genuine and real and did such an amazing job of helping me overcome that and help me feel relaxed.

What was your favorite part about your boudoir experience?

Christina took the rein and helped me get out of my head by just letting go and enjoying the experience. She walked me through everything, answered every question, helped with outfit selections and worked with me through my insecurities to produce some AMAZING pictures!

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photoshoot?

I would say, stop waiting for the 'right' moment. Whether you're 100% confident or not, this experience will change your mindset!

Every woman has their own reasons for doing a boudoir shoot, but mostly I think women want to feel good in their bodies. They want to love themselves more no matter what shape or size they may be at the time. They want to see the beauty others see in them — feel all sexy and empowered!

Our Scottsdale boudoir photo sessions have proven time and time again that this experience really can change the way you see yourself as well as help you learn to be more confident in your own skin. I love it when I get to share boudoir client interviews with you because it allows you to see women (who also were a little nervous at first), showing up for themselves and honestly having a good time!

“How was I going to be so vulnerable in front of someone I barely knew? How was I going to choose the right look I wanted? Was it going to be awkward? What if I didn't feel sexy or confident and it showed? Christina and Leah were so amazing. From the moment I walked in the door, there was just a fun and relaxing vibe. We got the music going and the fun just kept going. It was absolutely freeing! After finally experiencing this I don't know Why I was so afraid and didn't do this sooner.”

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I have wanted to do something like this for quite some time. I wanted to be able to learn to love my body. I stumbled across Bella Jade on Instagram. I loved seeing all the different women being shown and reading up on their experiences. All of these things finally helped me go for it!

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir The Bella Jade Collection for your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

I read up on the website. After seeing many amazing reviews and being able to "see" the team I felt a bit more at ease. It helped to put a face to some of the people that I might meet or work with. Plus all the raving reviews from "normal" women just like me made it all the more welcoming.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

I find in some ways I have gained a bit more confidence. It's still a work in progress but I'm definitely on the right track. This was an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience. I left on a high ready to schedule another session!

For Miss B. a boudoir session was something she had wanted to do for a while and honestly it was so well deserved! As a woman in her 40’s, a wife, a mother, a cross fit trainer — this babe earned some self affirming! I’d be lying if we didn’t say that doing this as a belated birthday gift for her husband was not a double win! The only fear I had going into this is not really knowing how to use my body to capture the images I was hoping for, but Christina is not only an amazing photographer but also a great coach! She even taught me how to get rid of my RBF for a quick minute!

I don’t have a single favorite part, I loved every single moment! From having a yummy mimosa, getting beautified with Leah, to just having so much fun! The time went by way too fast!

Words can not express the amazing experience I had.  Turning 50 at the end of 2022 and being body shamed since I was 12 this was something I have wanted to do for years but was so afraid to.  Made it a bucket list item and signed up.  I did my research on other photographers but following Christina on social media I got the feeling she truly cared and understood that not all women are built the same and we have our insecurities.  I was right the moment I walked in the door the day of the shoot I felt like I was hanging out with old friends just catching up and having a great time.  Then when I saw the completed pics all my previous worries went away and I am completely proud of myself for doing this.  If this is something you are wanting to do I highly recommend reaching out to The Bella Jade Collection.

To celebrate her 50th birthday Miss T. decided to book a boudoir session with us at Bella Jade Boudoir in Scottsdale. Completing a childhood dream and turning 50. So happy that I was able to complete this bucket list item.

Found The Bella Jade Collection on Facebook and Instagram and started following. I really liked the photos and the inspirational messages that were sent out. Not all women are built the same and it felt like Christina truly understood that.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

I am a work in progress. Completing this photo shoot had me face a fear and anytime I start to forget I always look at one of my pics from the shoot and its a reminder of who I am and what I can do.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

So many fears going into this even during the shoot there was an outfit I was terrified of the way the pics would turn out. I am so glad I continued with my outfit as one of the most terrifying outfits are one of my favorite pics. I actually don't think I would have done anything differently.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

The girls (makeup artist and Christina) making it from the beginning like we were old friends just hanging out and having a good time.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?

DO IT!! This is for YOU and no one else. Don't worry about what people will think or say about you completing this. Your dreams are yours and no one has the right to take that away from you.

“ … I never imagined that I would be walking into a place where I was accepted and encouraged and celebrated-- my fears left me somewhere around the time that my hair was done being curled! I wish that I had done it sooner. ”

Miss W. came in to our Scottsdale boudoir studio wanting to gift her husband a boudoir album for their 20th anniversary. She was honest to admit that she had wanted to do a boudoir shoot for years prior to booking her session with us. On multiple occasions she had chatted it over with her friends, knowing she just had to do this one day, and even still, talked herself out of it and into it over and over until finally taking the leap.

I wish I could say that doing a boudoir photography session is an easy YES for everyone because I wholeheartedly believe in boudoir and what it can do for you. Though — the truth is that it is not uncommon for women to put off doing a shoot like this.

Not only can it be incredibly intimidating at first, but it takes courage to confront your own doubts and body insecurities. For some a boudoir session can challenge the way they see themselves. While that journey can empower confidence it isn’t always easy to show up all in, right away.

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I've wanted to do one for years but this year was my 20th wedding anniversary, so it seemed like a good time to get brave and do it already!

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir The Bella Jade Collection for your Arizona boudoir experience?

I Googled and researched all of the photographers within a few hours from my house. I was very reassured that the reviews were consistently great and everyone seemed to really love Christina. Truthfully what sealed the deal for me were pictures of The Grey Room. I loved the way it looked and wanted to do my pictures there.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

I am very much a "Work-in-progress"! I am good at talking the talk but not walking the walk. Doing this boudoir shoot really did help me see myself in a new way and gave me a huge boost of confidence in myself.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

My fear was mostly that I am plus-sized and I felt really unsure if it would be worth it because I am not thin and perky. I never imagined that I would be walking into a place where I was accepted and encouraged and celebrated-- my fears left me somewhere around the time that my hair was done being curled! I wish that I had done it sooner. I wouldn't change anything else about this experience.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

My favorite part of the experience was Christina and Heidi's reactions when I came out in my last outfit. It was an open button-up shirt and I was feeling insecure about my breasts sagging so I used kinesiology tape to tape them up and create cleavage. It caught them off guard which caught me off guard and we all laughed and it was a really empowering moment for me. I was encouraged to do what made me feel comfortable and we got some really great pictures as a result! My second favorite part was picking up the book that I ordered and seeing it for the first time.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?

Don't think too hard about the outfits that you picked out. Go with the ones you like the most and 3 or 4 outfits is perfect. You will change positions constantly and end up with a ton of great shoots to choose from. Also, just do it already! Looking back I wish I had done this years ago. Whatever excuses you are giving yourself to not book a session are probably fear-based. Once you do your boudoir session you will be so happy with the results! You are in good hands with Bella Jade!

Would you recommend The Bella Jade Collection to a friend?

Absolutely! I've been bragging to my friends (the same friends who have heard me talk about boudoir on and off for years now). It's a special thing to be able to be vulnerable in front of strangers knowing that the result will be —

1) fun and just what you were looking for

2) actually good photography (Christina knows her stuff!); and

3) a very high quality book that I can show off.

Miss N. began her search for the best boudoir photographer in Scottsdale because she wanted to create an unforgettable gift for her groom. But, getting married was not the only reason she wanted to do a shoot like this. Miss N. had wanted to do a boudoir shoot for many years. She had never really felt it was OK to consider herself as a “sexy” woman. Having this boudoir experience and creating something tangible to look back on would help her feel empowered to finally be able to see that within herself — and believe it!

Miss N. wanted her boudoir session to be a mix of both bridal and bombshell! For that, she booked our Signature experience and began planning outfits for her session that would take place in The Grey Room. She even ordered a custom bridal lingerie piece (that by the way was its own amazing work of art: pictured below).

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I've been wanting to do a boudoir session for a couple years now. I love the idea of looking back on these photos when I'm 75 & knowing I was a badass & still am ;)

After typing 'Top Boudoir Photographers in Scottsdale' into google & looking through a few, I knew I wanted to go with Christina. All of the reviews were amazing, the photos were beautiful & the women's before/after photos gave me hope that she didn't only photograph models (even thought they alllll look like it in the photos).

Always a work in progress taking baby steps to become more of who I want to be. Working with Christina & Leah during the experience I felt like it was okay (more than okay) to see myself as a beautiful, sexy woman. That's how I want to see myself & these photos help me believe that!

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

When I initially booked the appointment I was super excited & then as the day was coming up I was getting nervous about being awkward in front of a camera & being awkward with a stranger in front of a camera - while I'm half naked. Once I got to the studio their welcoming energy helped me calm down & after a few awkward poses & lots of laughs I was able to let loose.

I wish I would have looked at her TikTok videos - I felt like I would have been a little more prepared. She did a great job walking me through everything, but I could have done a little more prep to feel comfortable going in.

Miss M. contacted our studio looking to do a boudoir photoshoot for herself but was also interested in booking one for her sister & BFF! Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

I always have felt like I come across confident, and there are times when I am. But recently, I have struggled with confidence. Doing this made me feel the most beautiful and sexy that I ever have.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

YES! Doing this was so far out of my comfort zone, I was nervous about pretty much everything. But the staff made me feel so welcome and it was truly great!

Miss L. had done a boudoir photo shoot with us at our previous Gilbert studio location. Naturally, I couldn’t have been more excited to have her back for a session at one of our Scottsdale studios, The Grey Room. She didn’t disappoint in bringing her magnetic energy, incredible sense of humor, and spirit for life and self love.

To capture the woman I am and remind myself that I am the driver in how I see myself.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

Through all the struggles with my body image, self-confidence/self-worth, emotional stability, giving to all and leaving nothing left for myself, I lost sight of who I am. BUT...I am back with a fierce confidence and amazing self-worth that I lost because I was conforming into somebody's version of me that fit their needs; I may have been smiling but inside I was not. I know I still have room to continue to grow but like in the Pink song, "I am here..."

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

None - this experience was exactly what I needed and what I have overcame to get here was captured in the photos.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

All of it - I felt empowered and worth something.

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir photoshoot?

My first thought was for my husband's 50th birthday. I wanted to give him something he would never forget and something completely out of the usual. After booking and in anticipation of the shoot, I realized I was doing this for me. I have had self-image issues as many of us do, and I wanted to show myself my body is my own and damn sexy. I also wanted to prove to myself I could do something like this. I am so glad I made the move to do this.

Honestly, the ad continued to pop up on my social media pages and each time I looked into it. Then, there was a massive discount and I figured, hey, why not?

Now was my time and this was the place for me.

I loved how welcoming and open the website and boudoir guide are. I really felt like I could be comfortable which is what you want when doing something out of your comfort zone.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

My answer really depends on what I am doing and who I am with. I am shy when meeting new people, but open up quickly. This experience has helped me be more confident in my own skin and shown me that despite the "flaws" I look great.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

I was definitely nervous going into this and especially the day of.

I had strained my neck a couple of days prior to my shoot and was scared of how that might affect the end result because of the difficulty I had with some of the poses. I really wanted to make this amazing, so I pushed through with the help of Christina and some champagne :) The only thing I would change is the neck strain, otherwise, the rest of the experience was amazing.

My favorite part of the experience probably has to be the reveal. Christina does such an amazing job and really makes this a special moment.

I also loved how the shoot itself flowed, it went from one thing to the next and truly felt like a whirlwind from beginning to end.

Know your why.

Yes, many of us do this for our significant other, but have a reason to do this for you too. Many of us struggle with self-image, unfortunately, but this is a great way to get out of your comfort zone and prove to yourself you have a smoking hot body and improve the way you see yourself.

I started to second guess myself in the car. I had just gotten news about what was going on with my body and I was asking myself “What am I doing here, I’m a 52 year old woman, I just found out I am in full bloom in menopause, and I questioned what am I doing here?”

I got out of the car and thought, “I’m here, let’s just do this, I don’t have to share the photos if I don’t like them.”

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

Once I walked in and was greeted by Christina and Heidi, I just bursted out what I had just found out and experienced in the car. I started to tear up. They greeted me with open arms and said they were so excited that I showed up.

During the shoot we had a lot of laughs and for once during this building up to doing the shoot, I felt, this is where I am meant to be at this moment in my life.

I felt good about myself as they guided me through the experience.

The reveal is a whole other story. Haha

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?

Just do it! You may consider, wonder, or question about it, but no matter what, jump all in and take it all in! It will be worth it, it will be just the beginning of you loving “yourself” more than you could ever imagine.

Yes! I would and I already have! As soon as I walked out the door and got into my car after the shoot. Best experience I have ever had!

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I wanted to see what other people say they see in me. I've been trying to work on being confident and I thought this would really help me with that.

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir The Bella Jade Collection for your Arizona boudoir experience?

I was looking online when Bella Jade came on my feed. I started to research and look into the company more and when I saw the pictures and videos Christina did and posted online, I felt I should reach out and ask the questions I had. She responded quickly and I felt comfortable with her and got a good vibe so I decided to book my session.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress?

No not even close. I am a work in progress all the way.

Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

Omg yes this experience has changed how I see myself. Just watching the video got me emotional and teary eyed seeing that all those pictures were me and that I did look beautiful.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

The vibe and energy from the ladies. From walking into the studio being so nervous they made me feel so comfortable and we had a great time. The reveal on how I looked with my hair and makeup done after Heidi worked her magic made me so ready for the shoot and I was able to really let go and get all of those great shots.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?

Do it!!! You will not regret it and Christina will help you throughout the whole process.

Miss N's Boudoir Photo Shoot in The New Grey Room! | Best Boudoir Photographer in Scottsdale, Phoenix AZ

All I can say is WOW! What a babe! This girls boudoir shoot in The ***new*** Grey Room was fire!

For a hot second she had me fooled. Going into it she was a little self conscious. She worried that she wouldn’t know how to pose and that she would look awkward in her boudoir photos. But as long as she trusted me, I wasn’t worried. She was going into this for all of the right reasons. She was ready in that its about time what are we waiting for kind of way. She needed this and I knew she was going to nail it!

What I didn’t know was that she was going to be tossing hair, laughing, and feeling herself before the warm up even barely started! And, I’ll take that kind of energy any day!

THAT-A-Girl!

For those of you reading this and wondering how the actual photo shoot works …

Miss N. says…

“I am my own worst critic and I wanted to do something to help me be more confident and I have never felt so confident like I did during my photo shoot.”

Toward the beginning of every session we like to do a warm up. Which is basically your boudoir photographer showing you a few tricks and coaching you through a series of tried and trusted poses. After 6+ years photographing women from all walks of life and different comfort levels, we know that keeping it simple in the beginning is this is the best way to get you started! And we tell you exactly what to do down to your finger tips. That’s right — you don’t have to know what you are doing. (you can exhale now… ). And here’s the thing … even if the first couple of photos are a total flop I don’t even care. I’m still not worried and you need not to either.

I realize — that even though this whole boudoir thing is not new to me, for most of our boudoir clients this is ALL new to you — every part of it

And if you’re feeling anything like Miss N was prior to booking her shoot and having a consultation with us, you are probably stepping way out of your comfort zone and into the unknown. So its OK to be nervous. We get it!

The warm up gives you a chance to get more comfortable being in front of the camera, taking direction, and finding your own flow! Again, we don’t expect you to come in having it all figured out in less than 60 seconds. Eventually the nerves will fade out and you’ll find your own rhythm. You’d be surprised how quickly you can get passed thinking about flaws and fears when you are having fun!

For Miss N it went a little like this: It was like I blinked, looked down at my camera, then BAM there was this super confident, playful, feeling some type of way Bombshell in front of me barely even through the warm up!

We LOVE that! Permission to brag to all of your friends how bad af you are!

After her session she shared with us what it was like from her perspective and I am excited that she has allowed us to now share her story with you.

I came into the new year wanting to love myself more and I needed a confidence boost and I thought what better way than a boudoir shoot! I needed to step out of my comfort zone and this definitely did that for me.

To be completely honest? I was thinking about doing a boudoir shoot and Bam! There you were popping up on Instagram!

Work in progress for sure! I am my own worst critic and I wanted to do something to help me be more confident and I have never felt so confident like I did during my photo shoot.

I am normally a very awkward person so I was worried that would come out in my pictures and it definitely did not. I was amazed at how well Christina captured my natural sexiness and how natural I looked in my photos.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

Everything from beginning to end… The whole process was amazing I felt completely comfortable in front of both of the make up artist and photographer. They made me feel at home and nothing about it felt weird. Picking out my photos was also fun. I did not feel pressured or rushed.

It was just all-around fun.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?

Yeah, do it!

Miss D, like many women we get the honor of photographing at our Scottsdale boudoir studio had wanted to do a shoot like this for a long time! For her, doing a boudoir photo shoot was something she needed to do for herself. And, even though she was a bit nervous to book the shoot at first — it was something on her bucket list and she was determined to accept the challenge.
