3 Things to avoid before a boudoir photoshoot

Overconsumption Night Before
It is best to avoid consuming alcohol the night before a boudoir session. However, we do encourage you to follow your regular dinner routine. Do not fast or crash diet hours before your shoot. You’ll want to be energized and hydrated! Eat a nutritious dinner, drink lots of water, and have a light breakfast before you arrive!
First Timer Spray Tans, and Self Tanner
There are both pros and cons to getting a spray tan prior to a boudoir shoot. In most cases, as your boudoir photographer, I will recommend avoiding spray tans altogether especially if it is not something you do on a regular basis. If you must — hire a professional, let them know you are having a boudoir photoshoot, and when. Self-tanner is never recommended.
Last Minute Panic Packing
Try on all of your outfit options in advance, narrow them down the best you can. For Bella Jade Boudoir’s regular boudoir sessions, two to four outfits is ideal. Lay them out on your bed and plan out any accessories you’d like to bring with you. Only pack what you need. An extra outfit or panty is okay just in case, but refrain from throwing in miscellaneous outfits, accessories/props last minute. You likely will not need them! Besides, too many outfits, accessories, and props can be overwhelming and take away from the real star of the show, which is you!

Tip #1: You do not have to hide your body!
First let’s address a common pain point for women — the tummy. If this area is a trouble zone that you’d rather not highlight in your photos there are options! High-waisted panties and high-quality onesies like teddies and bodysuits will flatter your figure better than your typical budget bra and panty set. Plus, since it conceals your tummy area these types of outfits can also help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Underarms and cellulite? Try long sleeves in lace, incorporate a robe add stockings to your boudoir outfit! These items will hug your body, accentuate your curves, and smooth out your trouble areas giving you a desired look that will help ease your nerves and empower confidence!
Tip #2 : Remember that numbers do not define you!
Whether it’s the number on a scale or your pants size do not stress it! Focus less on numbers and more on what fits you best! I’ve personally been a 10 to 14, busty woman for most of my adult life and I learned very quickly that the conventional idea of small, medium, large just doesn’t work for me. Don’t waste your time crying over having to size up or worse getting the wrong size just to satisfy your ego. Choosing the wrong size for the sake of avoiding the dreaded size up could ultimately result in being unhappy with how that translates on camera. Size up or down depending on what fits and be careful not to let insecurities and doubts guide your choices If the numbers don’t add up to a perfect body that’s ok. Perfect is not the goal — learning to love yourself just as you are is so much more important than numbers on a scale.
Tip #3: Do not limit yourself to just lingerie.
There are so many alternative options to lingerie that can be just as sexy for a boudoir photoshoot. Sometimes, the non-lingerie outfits turn out to be the favorite! Boudoir outfit ideas that aren’t lingerie include sweaters, jeans/jean shorts, little black dresses, t-shirts, jerseys, something from your significant other’s closet or even just sheets. I heard about it from make up artists over the past year or so and was always intrigued.
I am recently divorced and a new-ish mom and had lost my "sexy vibes" over the last 3 years of this - so wanted to re-find my sexy side.

I'm confident - maybe it doesn't seem that way posing lol but I am proud of my body and love it. I work very hard to keep it healthy. This photo shoot just demonstrated a different side. I default to feeling strong in my body but this was a softer sexy side that I typically am not as confident in.

Not really - but it is a bit awkward posing sexy for a camera. I'd like to continue to explore this.

There are many misconceptions about boudoir including the idea that a woman must be in the best shape of her life, and fully comfortable and confident with her body before she books her boudoir session. What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?
I was celebrating my 40th wedding anniversary and 58th birthday in September and wanted to do a little something out of the ordinary.

I looked online and loved what I saw and what I read about The Bella Jade Collection. After the full experience, I am so grateful that I chose them because they were the best from getting me ready for the shoot and helping me with the shoot itself and the end product was fantastic. I highly recommend them to everyone.
Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?
I am definitely a work in progress. Even though I can be very confident about certain aspects of my life this was definitely one of those areas where I doubt myself and feel self conscious. All of the uplifting emails throughout the process certainly helped to put me at ease and Christina was very upbeat and a fantastic coach helping me pose, etc.
Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?
I was afraid that I would not look very attractive, especially as a woman my age putting myself out there to be photographed. I must say that even at 58 years old the photos turned out spectacular and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?
I loved the photo shoot with the girls. They made me feel so comfortable and I was sad to see it end and could have stayed there all day. It was like spending the day with your girlfriends and having the best time.

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?
I have wanted to do something like this for quite some time. I wanted to be able to learn to love my body. I stumbled across Bella Jade on Instagram. I loved seeing all the different women being shown and reading up on their experiences. All of these things finally helped me go for it!

For boudoir photos that look and feel natural, less is more. A simple teddy or bra and panty set is all you’ll need to create this look. Focus on what fits well, hugs your curves, and feels most comfortable. For this look, subtle textures like lace, and floral work well. Neurals, earthy tones, or pastel colors like baby blue, and blush are ideal.
What To Wear: Comfy Boudoir
If lingerie isn’t really your thing, or you just love the idea of doing a boudoir session in something other than lingerie. This outfit idea feels cozy but also looks super cute, and should definitely be on your list of things to consider! Think over the shoulder sweaters, and t-shirts. You can transform any basic cheeky panties and bra to something cozy and flirty by layering your outfit with a cardigan or robe!
What To Wear: Glamorous Boudoir
Wearing something glamorous can truly elevate the experience. Whether it's a satin slip dress, full lingerie set with garter belt, stockings, and heels or something even more racy like a strappy bodysuit an outfit that makes you feel confident, strong, and sexy can go a long way. The first and most common is to wear white, traditional bridal lingerie. Lace robes, silk gowns, anything sheer, even wearing nothing more than your engagement ring are all great choices, too! To elevate this look I recommend bringing in something sentimental, or something that will be a part of your wedding like your “something blue”, your engagement ring, your wedding shoes, veil etc. Another option is to introduce a sexy accessory like a wedding garter!

You see, Miss B. is one of those clients you do not forget. You know, the ones it becomes easily obvious they are adored for being nothing short of fun, fierce and full of life and love. We’d hoped to amplify her confidence by capturing all of those qualities in her boudoir photos while also reminding her that she looks beautiful just being herself! I’d say between her, myself, the hair and make up artist, and her support team cheering her on behind the scenes at home, we were able to accomplish it all!

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?
I’d been wanting to do it for a long time, and my husbands birthday was the perfect extra “little” push I needed.
Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir The Bella Jade Collection for your Arizona boudoir experience?
I looked at multiple boudoir photographers in the Phoenix area and decided I liked the style of Christina’s photography style and she looked like so much fun to be around…she did not disappoint!
Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?
I am definitely a work in progress, but this experience helped change the way I see myself. I never thought I knew how to be sexy or that I even had it in me to be photographed while trying. I felt not only sexy, but beautiful!
Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?
The only fear I had going into this is not really knowing how to use my body to capture the images I was hoping for, but Christina is not only an amazing photographer but also a great coach! She even taught me how to get rid of my RBF for a quick minute!
What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?
I don’t have a single favorite part, I loved every single moment! From having a yummy mimosa, getting beautified with Leah, to just having so much fun! The time went by way too fast!
Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?
Just do it! I think every woman should do it, and love your body no matter what stage of life you are in.

Absolutely! I wouldn’t go anywhere else and I’m already thinking about my next session! Christina and her team really are the best. They make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in the door. I think this is one of the best experiences I have ever treated myself to! Loved it!
