To eat or not to eat?

Before we get too serious and I come off as a total food snob. HA! I just wanted to share this absolutely adsorbs photo taken back when Bella Jade Boudoir was located in Phoenix. We followed NO RULES and this shot was totally taken on the fly! But, I love it! Don’t you?

Ok, now let’s talk food and boudoir. Shall we?

Eating day of!

I'm sure lots of girls are worried about how'll they'll look day of - I know this because I literally just copy and pasted that statement from a member of our boudoir group!

And, the choice or question of what to eat or not eat prior to or during your boudoir shoot comes up time and time again.

I’ts a great question to ask, because I know the pressure to look thin and toned for your session is real! Honestly, even the most confident of confident full figured and fabulous models want to look healthy for their photos. Notice the word healthy? Its important!

I want you to look and feel good before during and after your shoot as much as you do. But, there is a fine line between fasting, dieting, and food deprivation. But that line can start to seem awfully blurry when it comes to having your photo taken especially if you are having your photos taken in lingerie! I GET IT, babe. I really do.

But —

Starving your body of the necessary ENERGY you need to SHOW UP is not the way. Neither is that last minute nervous trip to Jack in the Box to eat away your nerves the night before. Not that I’ve never done it before but all seriousness…

No one benefits from you feeling guilty for eating too much or too little before your boudoir session. Not you, not me, not your body, and not even your photos.

What I’m saying is —

Do Eat!

Food is fuel not your enemy. You just have to choose the Right foods. Yes?

My best advice for anyone worried about how eating might effect how they look in their photos — choose clean eating.

Whole fruits and vegetables, nuts, dried fruit, yogurts, and lean meats are a great place to start.

Do you tend to feel bloated after eating? Is it that time of the month? No worries,

here are some foods you can eat the day of your shoot that can help reduce bloating but also keep you fueled and feeling your best:

Lettuce
Strawberries
Bananas
Avocado
Green Tea

Ok Green tea is not a food but it leads me to the next preparation tip!

Do DRINK…

Lots of water. It seems like a given but is often overlooked. And, its so so important to stay hydrated. This is Arizona, after all.

Of course, I know everyone is different and there are plenty more tips and foods that would be an excellent source of fuel for your boudoir shoot. I encourage you to use your own best judgment and look at other resources to find food choices that work best for you!

Are you still feeling a little nervous?

That’s, totally OK. You are doing something that may be a little outside of your comfort zone, and feeling a little nervous is normal.

For you, we’ve put together some frequently asked questions that should put your mind at ease. And get you feeling more comfortable about booking a boudoir session with us!

— Will I be sharing the studio with other ladies? —

No, our studio is located in my private residence in Gilbert, Arizona. The space is exclusive for clients of The Bella Jade Collection. Unless, you choose to book back to back sessions with a friend for support, your time slot is reserved just for you!

— Do I need to know how to pose? —

Absolutely not. Most of our clients have never done a boudoir shoot before, and do not expect you to come in with rehearsed poses. We specialize in boudoir for the every woman. Your boudoir photographer will provide you with as much photo shoot coaching and posing direction that you need to ensure that you look and feel amazing.

— Should i wait until i lose a few extra pounds? —

We certainly want you to treat your body with love and care, so if a boudoir session motivates you to work on a health or wellness goal, by all means be good to your body! But, the numbers on a scale should never be the reason you put off booking a shoot like this! A boudoir session is about getting to know yourself, celebrating your sexy, and feeling empowered to love yourself more just as you are. I am telling you with confidence, that you do not NEED to lose weight in order to look great in your boudoir photos. In fact, a lot of women have walked away from their boudoir experience with us feeling a lot better about how they see themselves. We hear all of the time that the confidence received from our boudoir sessions has had life-changing impacts on how women talk to themselves and continue on their self love journey even outside our studio.

— Will I need to bring my own outfit? —

Yes, we want you to wear something that you are comfortable in and that will make you feel sexy wearing it! We’ve found that letting you shop for your own outfits and try them on in advance is ideal for an intimate shoot like this. But if you need help with what to wear we are happy to offer some guidance. This stunning babe rocked her boudoir shoot with us at our Gilbert boudoir studio! When planning out her boudoir shoot..

we really wanted to do something outside of traditional lingerie.

Something that really would amplify her banging body and show off her more confident self. This was a big deal because even though she’d reached a new sense of self and total high in her fitness and body love journey, there were still a few areas she still had to do some inner work on.

We talked about the things she loved about her body to ensure that we highlighted those features that she was most proud of. We decided on a few unique outfits and I wanted to share this one in particular that turned out AH-MAZING on her and had her feeling incredibly fierce and empowered -

a magazine style Calvin Klein inspired look - with a little plot twist!

She took it back to her roots by wearing one of her favorite Philippines brands, a Bench Body set with a little bit of denim to spice things up and add versatility. I am so in love with how these came out.

I can't even believe it took me this long to share this gorgeous woman's boudoir shoot with you all.

It is so important to my mission - helping women find confidence and inspiring you to celebrate yourself each and every day... whether it is something as exciting as a boudoir shoot or as simple as spending a quiet Sunday sipping sweet tea listening to your favorite songs. Miss K walked in excited and energetic. She had that I trust you and I am ready to bring it kind of vibe. Her positivity and confidence was oozing before we even began shooting and I cant say enough how beautiful that is! Truthfully, no matter what your size is or any perceived imperfections you may have, if you put your trust in your boudoir photographer, and arrive prepared and open-minded - you may surprise yourself!

I strongly believe that part of being a great boudoir photographer is understanding how women see themselves. Not women in general - but each woman as an individual person. That requires a level of honesty and trust from both of us - that for many can be a pretty vulnerable state. I love taking boudoir pictures, especially when I get clients who a ready and willing to have fun and be themselves!

Miss C was hoping to find a boudoir photographer in Phoenix that could make her feel comfortable enough to be herself in front of the camera.

Biker Babe has Sexy Gift Idea For Him | Boudoir Photography Phoenix

When I first met Miss E. she was looking for a professional photographer in Phoenix to take private pictures of herself that would help her see the herself the way her husband does - uniquely beautiful. She had reached a milestone in her journey towards living a healthier lifestyle and becoming more confident in her own skin, but like most women she was still unsure whether a boudoir photo shoot was right for her and whether or not she could look "sexy" in her photos.

We put together a rockabilly inspired portrait session that was a mix between boudoir and pin up photography. The results were so much fun!

Comfy Is The New Sexy | Intimate Phoenix Boudoir Photography

I understand that it takes courage to be photographed in such an intimate way, especially when you challenge yourself to just plain be yourself. It can induce some pretty overwhelming fears, and get pretty personal pretty fast. It can make you feel vulnerable and I get that. But, at the end of the day it is can also be just as freeing. I know this because my clients tell me all of the time that this experience surprised them and that

they never thought something like a boudoir shoot could change the way they see themselves - and then it did.

These photographs are proof that when you are willing to embrace your natural beauty to challenge yourself and be photographed just as you are that there is actually nothing very plain about that at all!

A candlelit room, SOFT BLANKETS, WARM coffee or tea, and a good book to make it feel more like home - this entire series of intimate images was such a delight to photograph and even more delightful to set your sights on. Kat looks absolutely stunning.

Kat was looking for a boudoir photographer in Phoenix to create tastefully sexy photographs that would make her feel not just "sexy" in the superficial sense but confident and comfortable in herself and her body. She wanted something feminine that would elevate her natural beauty and that is always something I can get excited about!

I was so honored to be considered. Kat is kind-hearted, wickedly gorgeous, and I must mention an amazing artist so It was pretty awesome teaming up with her to style her session. We focused on showcasing her warm personality and effortless natural beauty. You can imagine all the warm and fuzzy feelings that gave me! I just love when women are not afraid to just be themselves and have fun with it! Women inspire me and I am very passionate about making meaningful artwork that can empower the confident self within all of us.

But there is another reason I wanted to share these photos with you...

Because they provide a unique perspective on what boudoir photography is. This is a perspective that is very important to me but not always talked about among the "glamorous" world of boudoir photography.

Behind all of the lights, glitter, lush lashes, and big hair - are people. People who are just like you and me. People that desire to feel loved, admired, and confident being just who they are. That's the truth. If all of that glamour, the teasing, the strappy heels, and suggestive lingerie is not your thing - don't be afraid to tell me that. 

Call me a broken record but I can not stress this enough : boudoir photography should be about you and what makes YOU feel beautiful. It should never be about meeting some standard of perfection that ultimately makes you feel beside yourself. I mean, that's just how I see it. I want every woman that comes to me to feel comfortable enough to tell me how they dream of being photographed as well as their fears with full transparency. Do you want to be edgy, sensual, and seductive? Or more like a Sunday watching Netflix in an over sized t-shirt? My aim is to ensure you walk away from this experience feeling amazing about yourself! Sometimes the simplest little things such as a cozy sweater and a little shoulder can be sexy.

Boudoir & All that Sexy Stuff | Phoenix Boudoir Photographer

At The Bella Jade Collection we don't try to define sexy. We don't have a to-do list on how to get sexier for your boudoir pictures. And we certainly do not decide for you what you have to wear to be sexy. That's not us - and we are proud of it. Why?

Our boudoir clients re-define sexy everyday by breaking through to their true selves and embracing who they are in their own skin.

Of course I will provide my expert advice to help you feel more confident and comfortable during your session. I want you to look great, feel great, and walk away with the most captivating portraits of yourself you've ever seen. But, I also want you to be yourself, have fun, and re-discover what makes you uniquely beautiful! Otherwise to me all of that stuff (the lingerie, the make-up, the lashes, the lush hair, and that one photo where you looked like a model straight out of a magazine!) is just, well, stuff. 

I believe that whether you are doing this for yourself or for a significant other, a boudoir session is an investment in you! So, why shouldn't it be about you and celebrate all of the wonderful things that make you uniquely beautiful? Why does it just have to be about (you know) the "sexy" stuff. We take a different approach here at our phoenix boudoir studio, and want you to know that YOU are what makes boudoir the hottest and sexiest gift EVER! And, you are going to rock it by simply by being you and trusting your boudoir photographer to worry about all that other stuff.

I know, I know. I make all of this sound SO simple and I do understand that taking the leap and booking your boudoir photographer takes a bit of courage. I want my clients to know that having it all figured out prior to your boudoir photo-shoot is NOT a requirement. Before you go scouring the web with anxiety and jotting down notes on how to be sexy or memorizing hundreds of boudoir poses stop for a moment and remember that seriously

-the sexiest thing you can do is be yourself! 

What better way to encourage this type of attitude than to SHOW you what I mean with photos of real women who have braved the boudoir and rocked it just by being themselves and embracing their bodies and personalities to the core! 

Miss K. was a welcomed guest at one of our boudoir parties and I am excited to be able to share her images not just because she looks fabulous but  because she also ranks among the many who are not quite sure about this whole boudoir thing.

She was not ashamed to admit that she wouldn't have been here if it wasn't for being invited by a dear friend - a blow to the heart of a passionate boudoir photographer, but also the truth for most women out there. And, even though those words are never my absolute fave - I also knew right then I adored her, because her honesty and willingness to try something new is what I admire most about my clients. And this was my chance to show her how amazing a boudoir experience can be and give her something she will never forget.

I had to know more ( because I really did want her to feel comfortable) and as we talked about her skepticism about this whole boudoir thing, and how humorous some of the preparation lists they all had found on the internet seemed, I had to give it a bit of a laugh myself. But you guys I cant stress enough that at the end of the day, the best way to prepare is to just have a sit down with yourself  and figure out what YOU want and what is going to make YOU feel good about yourself. It didn't take Miss K very long to break through to the real her, and exude her own kind of sexy and we LOVE that here ar our Phoenix boudoir studio. Yes, the "stuff" and preparation will always be importrant, but not as important as

breaking through to the real you, and seeing yourself as unapologetically beautiful.

Getting to know Miss E. and taking her boudoir and pin up pictures was such a pleasure. She came to me a little unsure, which is normal. But her story really moved me as she went on to admit that she had spent the majority of her life trying to figure out why she was stuck in this body. She never would have thought there would come a day that she would feel comfortable enough to EVER do anything like this. I admired her bravery for sharing such intimate details with me and set out to ensure this experience would bring her the gift of confidence I knew she'd deserved.

I mean, this is the kind of woman who is always looking out for everyone else. The kind of woman you call just to talk and hear a friendly voice on a bad day. Navy Wife | Military Boudoir at Virginias House

I cant help falling in love with these military inspired boudoir photographs. When Callie came to me wanting to create a romantic gift for their anniversary, she also mentioned that the photos would serve as a keepsake for her husband when he is on military leave.

Callie had been considering boudoir for a while, and things just hadn't really worked out. I immediately couldn't help but want to bend over backwards for this woman after hearing her story, and make sure everything was just what she had imagined. Photographing outdoors was something she was really hoping for. And after talking over what her ideal photo shoot would look like, I immediately reached out to the lovely Natalie, whom I had only met a few months prior while shooting an intimate wedding. Fingers crossed - but hopeful. I just knew this place would be perfect. 

And it was - a private evening at Virginias House, a boutique wedding venue in Glendale, was just the right place to bring this vision to life!

We knew we wanted the images to be romantic, and heartfelt so while we had the ideal location, incorporating some sentimental items was a must - down to the shoes which were worn on their wedding day. I cant help but love all over the amount of thought that was put into this shoot! Callie is truly a  woman to be admired.

Formerly a California Girl,  she is proud to let her feet hit the ground in Arizona, and allow her love for her husband hold her steady no matter where life takes them next. I don't know about you, but I think I just might have to pass the best wife award over to this woman!

Feel As Sexy as You Are | Phoenix Arizona Boudoir Photographer

I knew I loved boudoir after my very first go around behind the camera capturing intimate portraits of a friend. Yes I know, super wierd right!? Well, it wasn't really. Once we got going the game changed. I wasn't just taking photos of a friend in her lingerie. We were creating engaging works of art and tapping into something that can only be realized by stepping a little bit outside of your comfort zone. 

That moment where you finally feel as sexy as you are - and believe it with every inch of your body!

That moment when you look at your boudoir photos for the very first time and realize that all of the

perfecting,

stressing,

and hiding behind your comfort zone

was only hindering your own ability to love yourself unconditionally. YOU ARE sexy just the way you are right now. Sure, you probably have a few things about your body you'd like to change but let me tell you-

the best gift a woman could EVER give herself is the gift of confidence! 

If I can help do that for even just one woman - that is by far the greatest reward of being a boudoir photographer.

For Miss A this experience was a reminder that there is nothing wrong with practicing self love! 

Miss A was an amazing woman to photograph, and I am grateful to share her story. She works in an industry primarily of males where she sometimes feels she has to be a little more thick skinned, and rarely has an opportunity to show off her sexy side! For her session we had very little time to get the right shot, but she was not going to let that stop her from making the most out of her boudoir experience. She seriously blew me away with her energy and that made everything fall right into place. 

Miss A. had her make-up done right here at the studio, and we went through the wardrobe she brought together, We would have time for just one outfit so it was even more important to choose just the right one - which was super hard ( women are crazy indecisive, so I'm sure you can imagine). Between the three of us we were able to put together

a piece that was unique to her, that she felt sexy in, and that would bring out her INNER VIXEN! .... Score!

She even brought in her own ideas for a final epic pose - thinking back to a canvas she had seen of an important women in her life as a child. Miss A KNEW she had to have one herself - at least one day! Not because we all are just dreaming of the day we get to hang a life-sized sensual portrait of ourselves over the mantel before Thanksgiving dinner (as if!). But.

because it gave her a SENSE OF EMPOWERMENT

and something to aspire to. She remembered looking at this image and thinking "what a strong and powerful woman". When you exude that kind of emotion, it is contagious. And Amber desires to feel empowered, confident and that kind of energy creates beautiful, authentic, and powerful imagery.

The result - was jaw dropping! Here are some of her best shots from Miss A's boudoir session at our phoenix boudoir studio.

Celebrating Sexy with Amber B. | Phoenix Boudoir Photography

Oh Em Gee you guys! Amber is crushing it and I am so excited she was gracious enough to allow me to share these boudoir photos with you! 

I first met Amber way back in the day (ok, so it was spring 2016 but it feels like forever) when I was just laying the vinyl letters on the door of the portrait studio - the defining moment of finally making this boudoir thing official in the sunshine valley of Phoenix! Let me tell you...

She was just as stunning then as she is now - And her confidence is smoking hot!

I totally fan-girl over anyone who has the guts to share their story and empower others. Amber is goal crushing you guys. From "I'm not sure who's skin I am in" to "everyone should feel this good in their own body," she found that something that gets her motivated and that inspires her to stop waiting stop making excuses and made a conscious decision to begin loving herself NOW and each and everyday after! Not just for herself, but she is spreading the love and transforming lives of others through her journey as an Herbalife coach. Dig that!

So this session was a celebration - of transformations, new beginnings, the power of self-love, and simply feeling sexy just the way you are right now! I am always telling my clients feeling nervous before a session no matter what your comfort level is normal. But even I have to admit that she makes boudoir look effortless. It is undeniable that these photos go to show just how far treating your body and practicing self love can go. Sometimes you just gotta let go and let your inner vixen take the stage. And that my friend, is just what she did. Confidence IS sexy!

Yes. I'm kind of known for country themed shoots - guilty as charged. I am quick to blame it on my Michigan roots and though I've tried to convert to city life, I still geek out whenever someone even whispers the idea of adding a little country chic to their sesh.

Her entire boudoir shoot felt more like hanging with your best girl friends. 

Lori Udrija hooked it up with hair and make-up while we put together a few outfits that added some personal style and threw on some girl-country to set the mood. A little over the top some might say. But lets be honest - girls just want to have fun, am I right? 

I wasn't sure if Christina would be as bubbly as she was during our consultation because she would be taking photos and concentrating. The shoot was much better than I anticipated. Christina is great at making people feel comfortable. She is always happy and smiling which really helps ease your worries away!

Like most women, Nicole was a bit nervous going into this session.

This was not her very first boudoir session but things had changed since her last love affair with the camera and Nicole, a first time mom, admitted to still getting comfortable with her new figure and wasn't sure if she could appear sexy. Never the less, I was so excited and honored to be photographing her during this new stage of her life and I'd say these photos are proof that she conquered her demons like a seasoned Rockstar!
