What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I was celebrating my 40th wedding anniversary and 58th birthday in September and wanted to do a little something out of the ordinary.

I looked online and loved what I saw and what I read about The Bella Jade Collection. After the full experience, I am so grateful that I chose them because they were the best from getting me ready for the shoot and helping me with the shoot itself and the end product was fantastic. I highly recommend them to everyone.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

I am definitely a work in progress. Even though I can be very confident about certain aspects of my life this was definitely one of those areas where I doubt myself and feel self conscious. All of the uplifting emails throughout the process certainly helped to put me at ease and Christina was very upbeat and a fantastic coach helping me pose, etc.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

I was afraid that I would not look very attractive, especially as a woman my age putting myself out there to be photographed. I must say that even at 58 years old the photos turned out spectacular and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

I loved the photo shoot with the girls. They made me feel so comfortable and I was sad to see it end and could have stayed there all day. It was like spending the day with your girlfriends and having the best time.

“How was I going to be so vulnerable in front of someone I barely knew? How was I going to choose the right look I wanted? Was it going to be awkward? What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I have wanted to do something like this for quite some time. I wanted to be able to learn to love my body. I stumbled across Bella Jade on Instagram. I loved seeing all the different women being shown and reading up on their experiences. All of these things finally helped me go for it!

There are a few things you’ll want to consider when starting to plan for your boudoir session. The most talked about are when to book, what to bring, or what to wear etc., and while these are all incredibly important, I’d really like to share even more with you! If you want to walk away from this experience with have no regrets then this is a good place to start! Here they are:

5 Things you wish you had known before your boudoir shoot

1. Boudoir photos are not just a gift for him.

   For a lot of women, the idea of a boudoir session starts out as a gift for their significant other only later to discover the ultimate gift was always for you — the gift of self worth, affirmation, and love. Boudoir really is a life-altering experience for most women. It’s an opportunity to boost your self-esteem and fall back in love with yourself. And so, going into this with a self love journey mindset you can change your perspective on how to plan for your session. With that knowledge, focusing on what you think he finds sexy is great but it’s not everything. Make this yours! Consider what is going to make you feel your most confident and the rest will follow.

Understanding your concerns allows me to be a better photographer for you. Moreover, speaking up before the shoot means no awkward moments during your session or avoidable disappointments after. The more we can understand each other the better! When we can conquer these things upfront we can be more proactive in our approach, as well as better personalize your session!

Boudoir is rarely seen as taboo these days. In fact it has become a very popular choice for women who are who are getting married, or celebrating a life event like turning 50, getting a promotion, or stepping into a big change. For boudoir photos that look and feel natural, less is more. A simple teddy or bra and panty set is all you’ll need to create this look. Focus on what fits well, hugs your curves, and feels most comfortable. For this look, subtle textures like lace, and floral work well. Neurals, earthy tones, or pastel colors like baby blue, and blush are ideal.

What To Wear: Comfy Boudoir

If lingerie isn’t really your thing, or you just love the idea of doing a boudoir session in something other than lingerie. This outfit idea feels cozy but also looks super cute, and should definitely be on your list of things to consider! Think over the shoulder sweaters, and t-shirts. You can transform any basic cheeky panties and bra to something cozy and flirty by layering your outfit with a cardigan or robe!

For Miss B. a boudoir session was something she had wanted to do for a while and honestly it was so well deserved! As a woman in her 40’s, a wife, a mother, a cross fit trainer — this babe earned some self affirming! I’d be lying if we didn’t say that doing this as a belated birthday gift for her husband was not a double win! But mostly, I’m glad that Miss B. signed up for herself, and embraced the opportunity to celebrate her sexy! This session allowed her to connect with herself in a way that was both freeing and empowering!

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I’d been wanting to do it for a long time, and my husbands birthday was the perfect extra “little” push I needed.

I looked at multiple boudoir photographers in the Phoenix area and decided I liked the style of Christina’s photography style and she looked like so much fun to be around…she did not disappoint!

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

I am definitely a work in progress, but this experience helped change the way I see myself. I never thought I knew how to be sexy or that I even had it in me to be photographed while trying. I felt not only sexy, but beautiful!

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

The only fear I had going into this is not really knowing how to use my body to capture the images I was hoping for, but Christina is not only an amazing photographer but also a great coach! She even taught me how to get rid of my RBF for a quick minute!

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

I don’t have a single favorite part, I loved every single moment! From having a yummy mimosa, getting beautified with Leah, to just having so much fun! The time went by way too fast!

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?

Just do it! I think every woman should do it, and love your body no matter what stage of life you are in.

Words can not express the amazing experience I had.  Turning 50 at the end of 2022 and being body shamed since I was 12 this was something I have wanted to do for years but was so afraid to.  Made it a bucket list item and signed up.  I did my research on other photographers but following Christina on social media I got the feeling she truly cared and understood that not all women are built the same and we have our insecurities.  I was right the moment I walked in the door the day of the shoot I felt like I was hanging out with old friends just catching up and having a great time.  Then when I saw the completed pics all my previous worries went away and I am completely proud of myself for doing this.  If this is something you are wanting to do I highly recommend reaching out to The Bella Jade Collection.

I am a work in progress. Completing this photo shoot had me face a fear and anytime I start to forget I always look at one of my pics from the shoot and its a reminder of who I am and what I can do.

So many fears going into this even during the shoot there was an outfit I was terrified of the way the pics would turn out. I am so glad I continued with my outfit as one of the most terrifying outfits are one of my favorite pics. I actually don't think I would have done anything differently.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

The girls (makeup artist and Christina) making it from the beginning like we were old friends just hanging out and having a good time.

DO IT!! This is for YOU and no one else. Don't worry about what people will think or say about you completing this. Your dreams are yours and no one has the right to take that away from you.

5 Quick Tips for Your Boudoir Photo Shoot | Phoenix Best Boudoir Photographer located in Old Town Scottsdale Arizona

If you’ve already booked your Phoenix Boudoir Photography Session and are beginning to plan for your boudoir shoot you may be wondering how to prepare or what to bring with you on the day of your boudoir session. For our clients here at Bella Jade Boudoir we invite them to schedule a pre-shoot consultation with us to better understand just what to expect and get even more tailored guidance on how to get ready for their session with us.

Here are 5 quick tips we share with every boudoir client:

1. Plan your outfits in advance including trying everything on well before the day of your shoot. If ordering lingerie items online, be sure to give yourself enough time for shipping, as well as possible exchanges/returns.

2. Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure. Nails are one of the most overlooked details when it comes to having your photos taken. Since, this is boudoir getting a pedicure is even more noticeable especially if you do not plan on wearing heels in all of your photos. Not only will this freshen up your appearance but it’s a great way to unwind and relax any nerves you may have about doing a shoot like this.

3. Be mindful of tan lines and clothing lines in your skin. We almost always recommend not getting a spray tan, however it does not hurt to ask if a spray tan is something that you are considering. In some situations having a professional spray tan can be beneficial. Wearing lose fitting clothing the morning of your shoot is ideal for avoiding lines in your skin from bra straps or other tight garments.

4. Drink plenty of water and be sure to eat a light breakfast the morning of your session. Now is not the time to fast, start a new weigh loss diet etc. Drinking plenty of water will help reduce unwanted bloating while eating a light breakfast will give you the energy you’ll want during your shoot!

5. Get out of your own head. If doing something like this is outside of your comfort zone getting nervous as you get closer to your shoot is not uncommon. Remind yourself why you are doing this then get out of your own head by giving yourself permission to show up all in and letting go of the idea that you need to look perfect or do it perfectly. Show up for yourself and just have fun with it!

“ … I never imagined that I would be walking into a place where I was accepted and encouraged and celebrated-- my fears left me somewhere around the time that my hair was done being curled! I wish that I had done it sooner. ”

Miss W. came in to our Scottsdale boudoir studio wanting to gift her husband a boudoir album for their 20th anniversary. She was honest to admit that she had wanted to do a boudoir shoot for years prior to booking her session with us. On multiple occasions she had chatted it over with her friends, knowing she just had to do this one day, and even still, talked herself out of it and into it over and over until finally taking the leap.

I wish I could say that doing a boudoir photography session is an easy YES for everyone because I wholeheartedly believe in boudoir and what it can do for you. Though — the truth is that it is not uncommon for women to put off doing a shoot like this.

Not only can it be incredibly intimidating at first, but it takes courage to confront your own doubts and body insecurities. For some a boudoir session can challenge the way they see themselves. While that journey can empower confidence it isn’t always easy to show up all in, right away.

I share this openly with you because we want you to know that you are not alone in feeling like this and it’s ok to start before you are fully ready.

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I've wanted to do one for years but this year was my 20th wedding anniversary, so it seemed like a good time to get brave and do it already!

Why did you choose Bella Jade Boudoir The Bella Jade Collection for your Arizona boudoir experience?

I Googled and researched all of the photographers within a few hours from my house. I was very reassured that the reviews were consistently great and everyone seemed to really love Christina. Truthfully what sealed the deal for me were pictures of The Grey Room. I loved the way it looked and wanted to do my pictures there.

Do you consider yourself a confident person or more of a work in progress? Did this boudoir experience change the way you see yourself?

I am very much a "Work-in-progress"! I am good at talking the talk but not walking the walk. Doing this boudoir shoot really did help me see myself in a new way and gave me a huge boost of confidence in myself.

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

My fear was mostly that I am plus-sized and I felt really unsure if it would be worth it because I am not thin and perky. I never imagined that I would be walking into a place where I was accepted and encouraged and celebrated-- my fears left me somewhere around the time that my hair was done being curled! I wish that I had done it sooner. I wouldn't change anything else about this experience.

What was your favorite part about your Scottsdale boudoir experience?

My favorite part of the experience was Christina and Heidi's reactions when I came out in my last outfit. It was an open button-up shirt and I was feeling insecure about my breasts sagging so I used kinesiology tape to tape them up and create cleavage. It caught them off guard which caught me off guard and we all laughed and it was a really empowering moment for me. I was encouraged to do what made me feel comfortable and we got some really great pictures as a result! My second favorite part was picking up the book that I ordered and seeing it for the first time.

Do you have any advice for someone considering their own boudoir photo shoot?

Don't think too hard about the outfits that you picked out. Go with the ones you like the most and 3 or 4 outfits is perfect. You will change positions constantly and end up with a ton of great shoots to choose from. Also, just do it already! Looking back I wish I had done this years ago. Whatever excuses you are giving yourself to not book a session are probably fear-based. Once you do your boudoir session you will be so happy with the results! You are in good hands with Bella Jade!

Would you recommend The Bella Jade Collection to a friend?

Absolutely! I've been bragging to my friends (the same friends who have heard me talk about boudoir on and off for years now). It's a special thing to be able to be vulnerable in front of strangers knowing that the result will be —

Afterwards we asked Miss N. about what the boudoir experience was like for her from start to finish. Since she has so graciously allowed us to share her boudoir story along with some of her favorite images from her session, you can see her full interview here.

What inspired you to pursue a Scottsdale boudoir session?

I've been wanting to do a boudoir session for a couple years now. I love the idea of looking back on these photos when I'm 75 & knowing I was a badass & still am ;)

After typing 'Top Boudoir Photographers in Scottsdale' into google & looking through a few, I knew I wanted to go with Christina. All of the reviews were amazing, the photos were beautiful & the women's before/after photos gave me hope that she didn't only photograph models (even thought they alllll look like it in the photos).

Always a work in progress taking baby steps to become more of who I want to be. Working with Christina & Leah during the experience I felt like it was okay (more than okay) to see myself as a beautiful, sexy woman. That's how I want to see myself & these photos help me believe that!

Did you have any fears going into this? Were you able to overcome them?

When I initially booked the appointment I was super excited & then as the day was coming up I was getting nervous about being awkward in front of a camera & being awkward with a stranger in front of a camera - while I'm half naked. Once I got to the studio their welcoming energy helped me calm down & after a few awkward poses & lots of laughs I was able to let loose.

I wish I would have looked at her TikTok videos - I felt like I would have been a little more prepared. She did a great job walking me through everything, but I could have done a little more prep to feel comfortable going in.

Looking at my photos! Having my hair & makeup done! Feeling like I'm a sexy, strong women in front of the camera! Laughing with two other confident, sexy women & wishing everyone could feel that feeling :)

Miss M. contacted our studio looking to do a boudoir photoshoot for herself but was also interested in booking one for her sister & BFF! They’d dreamt of gifting each other a boudoir session as a way to support one another on their self love journey! And, I love that! For her, she had imagined that doing a boudoir shoot would be a confidence boosting experience that she could share with her best friend! What better way to celebrate and encourage one another then a Private Boudoir Party! So, of course we quickly got them on the schedule for a Best Friend Boudoir Session at our signature Scottsdale studio, The Grey Room.

This BFF session did not disappoint! From mimosas, getting their hair and make up done together, listening to music, cheering each other on, and BONUS getting to add three ladies from our studios to their personal hype girl team — this day was nothing short of incredible!

   Let’s talk low volume vs. high volume studios really quick — Its important to note that there are different kinds of boudoir studios. Know that high volume studios typically have more than one boudoir photographer on staff (and that can change at any given time). Which means the person you are talking to might not actually be the same person that will be at your session. It is important that you know who will be taking your boudoir photos. Do not be afraid to ask this question!

   Bella Jade’s Answer:

   Bella Jade Boudoir is a full service, high touch, low volume studio. We generally book a limited amount of sessions per month. (I know I know, we may be missing out on some mula doing things this way, but it is more important to me that we can ensure every client gets the same luxury experience! We just don’t want to overbook or overexert ourselves. Simple as that).

   On the plus side, that means every woman that comes through our studio knows exactly who they’ll be working with and can receive the one on one guidance they need for an amazing time with us!

   In short — We DO NOT hire out other photographers to fill your session. The person you speak to at your consultation is the same person that will be with you and photographing you on the day of your session. “It’s me. Hi! ‘Im, Christina”. You can learn more about me and our team here.

2. Where will my boudoir session take place?

   The term boudoir means “private bedroom or sitting room”. Likely your boudoir session will take place in a setting like described. This could be anything from your own home, your photographers home, a hotel room, a rented space, or a private studio. Not all boudoir photographers have a designated space for their boudoir sessions. Your photographer should have no problem taking to you about where your session will take place.

   Bella Jade’s Answer:

   When you book a shoot with Bella Jade Boudoir we have two of our very own private boudoir studios to choose from. We offer our classic Main Studio, or you can opt for our signature rich and moody studio, also known as The Grey Room which are both located in Old Town Scottsdale. 3. What’s included with the cost of my boudoir session?

   Since every boudoir photographer has a different process, be sure to ask what’s included with your boudoir photo shoot price. The most common additional costs may include, professional hair and make up, studio/hotel rental, price per outfit change, additional hours, prints and products.
   
   Bella Jade’s Answer:

   When your book a shoot at Bella Jade Boudoir your session includes a styling and wardrobe consultation, photo focused hair and make up pampering, private studio location, expert photoshoot coaching and posing direction, professional beauty retouching and editing of your photos, and a boutique ordering experience to view your photos and place your final package order. Since our final packages options vary in products prices and number of images, we want you to see your photos and sample our products before you invest in your final images. For this, all of your photos, prints, and products are purchased separately on the day of your ordering appointment (typically two weeks after your session date).
   
   That means — You only purchase what YOU love!

4. How many boudoir sessions do you do per day?

   Note that some boudoir photographers shoot back to back sessions. For most women, privacy and comfortability is important. If this is you, asking this question might help you decide which photographer is right for you.

   Bella Jade’s Answer:

   To be honest, shooting more than one session per day can be exhausting and I want to be ALL IN FOR YOU during your session. At Bella Jade we schedule one session per date giving you all of our energy and allowing you as much time as you need to get more comfortable in front of the camera. We want you to feel supported, comfortable, not rushed, and have a genuine good time hanging out with your new hype girls for a day!

   Typically our sessions last between 3 to 4 hours including hair and make up. We sometimes do photograph multiple women in one day but this is reserved for private events like Bachelorette Boudoir Parties or Best Friend Sessions but we’ll save that information for another day on another blog post.

5. Do you have experience shooting women my age, my size, etc.?

   Experience and boudoir specific training in boudoir photography matters, A LOT. After all, this is the person you’ll be trusting with your personal boudoir photos. If you’re wanting to do a boudoir shoot as a way to boost your confidence you’ll want to hire a boudoir photographer who is experienced, knows how to coach you through posing, and has an eye for photographing all body types in the most flattering ways. If it is not readily prevalent in the photos they share be sure to ask if they’ve had experience photographing women of all ages, shapes, and sizes (not just models or any one similar body type).

For that, we take special care to ensure that you look and feel amazing no matter what age, shape, or size you may be. We will offer guidance from what to wear down to how to pose so that you will truly love how you look in your boudoir photos! Moreover we have photographed hundreds of women and have over 7 years of experience shooting exclusively boudoir. Our experience ranges from age 21 to 60+, all different body types (including plus size), and all different comfort levels! Our clients are not expected to know what to wear, how to pose, or arrive 100 percent confident wearing little to nothing in front of us. We know that nerves are normal and are here to help you and encourage you through the entire process.
